Winner! Best of Weddings 2026
Winner! Best of Weddings 2026
Written by the family. For the couples we serve.
There is no shortage of wedding advice on the internet. Most of it was written for everyone — which means it was written for no one in particular. Not for couples planning an outdoor ceremony in the Big Country. Not for West Texas heat, unpredictable spring winds, or the particular kind of beauty that comes from a wildflower meadow in full bloom behind your altar.
That's why this blog exists.
Since 1979, our family has been behind the camera at weddings across West Texas. Since 2003, we've been welcoming couples to The Meadows — the outdoor venue Danny built right here near Abilene. We know this land. We know this region. And we know the questions you're carrying into your search.
Every article here is written to help you find the answers — so you can make decisions you feel confident about, long before your wedding day arrives.
“The more you know, the better your decisions.” That's not just something we say. It's how we run this business.
No one outside your own family will care more about your Abilene outdoor wedding than Vera Snook.
That's not marketing. That's just the truth.
Vera is the lead Wedding Director at The Meadows — and the person who coordinates every detail between your vision, our family, and the vendors who help bring your day together. She's also an award-winning photographer who has stood at the back of more ceremonies than she could count, capturing wide shots while Danny works the altar. She's been doing this since before most of our brides were born.
She built this blog to answer the questions she hears most. The ones brides ask during tours. The ones grooms quietly wonder about. The ones first-time planners don't even know they should be asking yet.
And if a question comes up that you don't see answered here — just call her. She genuinely means it.
“Vera caught the fine details I didn't even know to ask for. She was attentive, clear with instructions, and a complete lifesaver.” — Ja'Nicie & David

Most wedding blogs are written to rank on search engines. This one is written to answer your actual questions.
The Meadows family has been serving couples across Abilene, Midland, Sweetwater, San Angelo, Lubbock, and DFW for decades. Danny has been behind a camera since 1979 — and has held his Certified Professional Photographer designation since 1988. The Meadows itself was built in 2003, giving our family over 20 years of experience hosting weddings on this exact property.
Dustin trained at Le Cordon Bleu and has been part of the Abilene and Potosi community for more than 25 years. Donna has directed more wedding days than most coordinators see in a career. And Vera has earned the trust of brides who still send her messages years after their day.
When this family writes about outdoor weddings near Abilene — they're writing from experience. Not research. Not theory. From standing at the altar, adjusting silk flowers on the pergola, and watching a bride step out of the Brides Cabin for the very first time.
Food is one of the things your guests will remember most about your wedding. It's also one of the areas where couples tend to worry the most — and where The Meadows removes that worry entirely.
Chef Dustin Snook founded Culinary Events Catering in 2010. He's a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, an award-winning cook, and a lifelong member of the Abilene community. When you book catering through The Meadows, you're not hiring a third-party vendor who's never seen your venue. You're working with the chef who knows this kitchen, this property, and this family — because he's part of it.
Every menu is custom designed by Chef Dustin and you — taking into account your budget, your guest count, your food preferences, and your event style. Catering pricing starts at $9.99 per dish and includes disposable dishware, napkins, tea, water, delivery, setup, and buffet replenishment at no additional charge.
Current menu options include:
Tex-Mex Buffet Beef & Chicken Fajitas · Cheese Enchiladas · Chips & Salsa · Guacamole · Spanish Rice · Charro Beans
Pasta Bar Three Sauces · Penne · Grilled Chicken · Garlic Bread · Salad Bar
Beverages — sweet tea, unsweet tea, lemonade, and water — are included with every catering package.
“Restaurant quality food. Professional execution. And the peace of mind that comes from knowing the chef is family.”
🌿 Ceremony Sites at The Meadows The Pergola. The Outdoor Chapel. The Wedding Oak. Which one is right for you — and what will each one look like in your photos?
📸 Photography & Captured Moments What to expect from two award-winning photographers who know every corner of this property — and have since 2003.
🍽️ Catering & Custom Menus Behind the buffet — how Chef Dustin builds a custom menu that actually feeds your guests well, without the vendor-coordination stress.
📋 Planning & Timelines From your first tour to your last dance — a clear look at how an all-inclusive wedding comes together when one family handles everything.
💐 Décor & Design What's included in your package, how Celebration Hall transforms for your reception, and the décor details most couples never think to ask about until it's too late.
