Pair Marfa with a few nights in the Davis Mountains and you have one of the most dramatic and unexpected honeymoon itineraries in the state. McDonald Observatory sits at over 6,800 feet, and their stargazing programs are genuinely life-changing under a West Texas sky this dark and this clear. Both destinations. Wimberley sits tucked between Blanco and San Marcos, along the Blanco River and cypress-lined Cypress Creek. It's smaller and quieter than Fredericksburg, with a pace that's absolutely perfect for a honeymoon — which is to say, no pace at all.

The vacation rental market here is exceptional. Private treehouses. Creekside cabins. Luxury farmhouse retreats with wrap-around porches and Hill Country views as far as you can see. Spend your days tubing the crystal-clear Blanco River, exploring the Wimberley Square's local shops and art galleries, or doing absolutely nothing — which, after months of wedding planning, may be exactly what you need.

Why we love it for honeymooners: Wimberley doesn't ask anything of you. It simply wraps you in Hill Country beauty and lets you be newly married. That's more than enough.

Don't miss: Blue Hole Regional Park — a spring-fed swimming hole shaded by ancient cypress trees, cool and clear and impossibly green. It's one of those Texas places you'll want to keep to yourself.

Big Bend National Park is one of the most remote, most dramatic, and most undervisited national parks in the United States — and that combination is exactly what makes it extraordinary.
